Brendan George was fulfilling a dream of his to take his motorcycle across country and was in a serious accident.
Prognosis for TBI at this stage is very uncertain in both time and outcome. However, as of this week (August 8, 2015), we learned he has responded to audio recordings.
We can't know how much Brendan can process from these voices, but we want to be ready. After all, a favorite quote of his about being ready for anything was "A man with a pocketknife is worth a dollar more an hour." As such, we ask for your voices.
How to record:
Your computer probably has a free recorder. For example, here is how you might record from Windows: http://www.wikihow.com/Record-Your-Voice-on-a-Windows-Computer
and Mac:http://www.wikihow.com/Record-a-Sound-on-a-Mac
or, you can download a free recording mechanism like Audacity to your computer: http://audacityteam.org/ and begin recording.
Also, you can record using an iphone (don't mean to insult anyone, but I needed the "Dummies" version when I began!) http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-use-voice-memos-on-your-iphone.html
You may save recordings to your computer, then attach and send them as m4a or wav files to: bgeorg15@kent.edu. We have had success in getting the first few to play! We will play these for Brendan.
If you can't or don't know how to do this, feel free to e-mail Barbara George at bgeorg15@kent.edu and she will arrange a time for you to record at Ed and Ruth George's home.
What to record:
First, say your name, and remind him of how you know him.
Next, record away! These do not have to be long. It could be a quick joke or greeting. We are also looking for:
- memories - feel free to record a conversation with a friend about memories
- amusing anecdotes and longer jokes
- conversations of children talking. Is there anything funnier than listening to 5 minutes of toddler talk?
* Just remember...Ruth George might hear these someday!
- or even reading him a chapter from one of your favorite books
Brendan is a fellow with some decided tastes (as we know from his country preferences - ha! ha!), so we know that he would really love you to read some Silhouette Romances. Just kidding. We know he LOVES Pat McManus.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_F._McManus He also likes to read nature and adventure stories. For example, his sister ej plans to read him this book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Emerald-Mile-Fastest-History/dp/1439159866
If you do plan to read something to him, please e-mail Barbara George at: bgeorg15@kent.edu so we can be sure he doesn't get 30 versions of the first chapter of Gone With the Wind.
We continue to thank his family, friends and medical staff for their amazing support!!!
